Great painting. The colours are lovely.

Lovely depiction of the Western Isles to add to your superb collection of paintings.

Roger it was the light on the far hills and horizon that struck me immediately, the sense of the hidden sun striking a path through the clouds......gorgeous. The beautiful pure colour of the shallows in the sea are exactly as they are. Lovely depth and distance too.

Fiona has hit the nail on the head !!

Thank you all for those comments. I do a rough acrylic underpainting because it dries quickly. I'm finally learning, at the next stage, not to "even everything out." Some of those light effects started to happen so it was a case of stopping myself from painting over the happy accidents. I am very pleased with the sea. I think my plein air pastel work and the underpainting both helped there. The oil paint doesn't have to completely cover the canvas. The underpainting comes through as pastel paper does in other pieces.

Your technique paid off in this Roger!

For me, it's the light on the beach.

A lovely atmospheric piece, with super composition and palette.
