Nicely done Richard , your a braver man than me my friend. Portrait sketches and paintings terrify me certainly a no go area . I’m a devout coward , I asked them to put it down as my religion , when I was in the RAF, they said it was an unrecognised religion.

There's lots of nice movement in this Richard and her hair works well. She certainly captures your attention with that 'look'! I would suggest you buy a few books on how to draw portraits and practice, practice, practice .. You Tube videos are also good. Certainly it's helped me enormously.

Thanks for your comments Paul and Heather. Great humour Paul, love it ! Am only a coward at the mention of Dentists and Doctors. Correct Heather, portraits are practice, practice, practice as you said and being prepared for frustration ! Thanks for the You Tube advice.

I like that! I have not really tried my hand at portraits so am very respectful to any who have a go!

I cannot do portraits. Nice work Richard.

Thank you for your comment David. I am certainly more at home with my birds and Lake District sketches etc. When I started having a go at portraits I didn't realise there is a compulsion to keep trying to improve.

I think the comments about practice are right = you've certainly got the drawing skill- well done

Thank you for your positive comments Hilary and Sylvia.

Not even a sitter? Never mind worries about the mouth, the character is there. Why not keep a small sketchbook and pencil in your pocket. No one has ever caught me out sketching strangers in cafes, trains. etc. If they did I'd offer them the drawing but they'd probably not like it!

Thanks for your comment Frank, and yes I should carry a small sketchbook for my Lakes, Dales and Peak walks, better than working from photos. Think I would find sketching people in a cafe or pub etc a bit intrusive or is that just me !

You are one up on me Richard, I’m absolutely hopeless at portraits……well done you. This is a very good start.

That's great! It's certainly not easy to do. Well done!

Have done previous face / portrait drawings from Copyright Free / Tutorials I did this without any reference. Quit pleased but think the mouth should be more at an angle or am I being too hard on myself !!
