this is just amazing! i love all your work. The detail is amazing. This is what i'd like to get to eventually. only been painting a year but i enjoy the detailed work more than the loose.

Just enjoyed looking through your website. Lovely painting of a beautiful spot, as always the detail is remarkable.

Quite incredible painting; and I think I saw your work in International Artist magazine a while ago - where it certainly deserves to be. Clovelly should adopt this painting - it would be the best marketing tool they'd ever used. Now off to enjoy your website.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I sent details of this painting to the Visitors' Centre in Clovelly a couple of years ago, suggesting they might like to sell prints or cards but received no response. Maybe I should try again! And yes, that was me in International Artist Magazine. They are publishing a 6-page article on my work in the June/July issue.

Very well done - the great advantage of Int Artist is their clear and large photo reproductions (and world-wide coverage). Send it to the Clovelly Tourist Board, if such a thing exists, and tell them to wake their dozy ideas up! This is so much - so very much! - better than boring photographs.

Beautiful painting. Would certainly make me want to go there.

Gorgeous painting everything about this is expertly painted. Such attention to detail. Makes me wonder how long it took you to paint? The wonders of acrylic thought this probably would have taken a lot longer in oil?

Thank you all for your generous praise. Much appreciated. This painting took 60 hours to paint – as Jeannette has said, probably much quicker than if it had been in oils, which is just as well, as I have absolutely no patience!

24" X 36". ORIGINAL SOLD. AVAILABLE AS CICLEE PRINTS. In 2008 I met up with a friend and we undertook the spectacular 10 mile coastal hike from Hartland Quay to the fishing village of Clovelly in north Devon. Set into a steep hillside, Clovelly's main street winds its way down the 400 foot hill through traditional whitewashed cottages to the picturesque harbour. Traffic is banned and the hill is so steep that sledges are used for transport. Unusually, the village is privately owned and has been by the same family since 1738. Their policy is to care for Clovelly and keep it in the style of the mid-19th Century, making it very unusual, with a charm of its own. When we arrived in the late afternoon, the sun was casting strong shadows down the hill and I took a large number of photographs, several of which were used in composing this scene, which is taken from the breakwater. I have included a large amount of detail and my aim is to draw the viewer in to explore the village and discover its charms. Please see my web site at: www.richardharpum.com
