Nice strong colours in this Rebecca. I wonder if you'd try something for me? (you can always delete this comment!). With the image above, put a peice of paper, or just your hand, covering the bottom half of the picture. Consider, which is the better image - the original as it is, or the one you have covered. My opinion - which of course isn't necessarily the same as yours or anyone eles's, is the covered version. Why..............? I don't think the bottom half adds anything to the image, so it doesn't need to be there. It's a vast expance of nothingness which for me, distracts from what you are actually painting - the chateau. The wonderful thing about being artists is we can play "God" - we can decide what is good or bad in the landscape, and add or remove, or move things around to suit our painting. If for example you look at a landscape, and think maybe a tree would be better on the left and not right, well then move it! I For the chateau, I would have been tempted, to change the forground into a narrow lane with perhaps a few small bushes on the sides. This leads the viewers eyes up to the chateau. But thats what i see - and we all see differently. I know you have a good imagination, so use it to your advantage. The point is - you don't have to paint EXACTLY what is in front of you, we have cameras for that. Only paint the bits that help make a good painting. Hope thats helpful. Hi Tony :-) thank you for your advise and comments and looking through my artwork. I have taken onboard your advise, and when i am in the mood to try this painting again, i will try your suggestion. I do see what you mean about the painting, however, i was capturing how it really is and not how i may wish it to be. ( i dont think i captured it as well as it should be) i totally see your point about the camera thing, i always think artists can put their own identity into paintings of places, otherwise use a camera, but i wished for this picture to be captured as the photo showed it to be. I appreciate your help and will let you know when i have had a go again :-)

Hello Rebecca, I like this picture, it reminds me of distant family holidays. Painting is about what you really love doing. I have also started to chop things out of my pictures for the sake of composition, but only because I usually get the size or perspective wrong and run out of room!!!!!

That sounds a clever idea Louise chopping at the picture, i too have trouble with perspective and if anything relating to art gets boring, i don't bother :-p but that sounds a good idea, chopping up the picture into like maybe a jigsaw, thank you, i will try that :-p thank you for looking at my artwork and commenting :-)

Sorry rebecca, I think you miss understood louise's comment. She didn't say she chops pictures up - she said she chops things out of the picture - she means she leaves things out of the painting - which is what I was saying previously.

Hi Tony, It Wouldn't surprise me, i always mis-understand people :-p so, i apologise too. Understanding is an issue i have :-p I still think a jigsaw methode could be an easier way to create a different painting, if i have 2 differernt paintings, chop them up, and maybe mix n match? Like you were saying, add or take away from the painting :-) Thank you for your comments and looking at my paintings :-)
