Beautiful. One of my favourite flowers but so beautifully painted. Your description of your technique is very useful too. I imagine that chequerboard pattern was "interesting " to do :-)

Well done Rachel...you have pulled it off well. These are a difficult flower to paint [in my book]...I very much like what I see here..

Beautiful painstaking work. Like Diana, I love these flowers and have some in my garden. Your background is perfect and it makes for a delightful work.

Beautiful painting, lovely colours and background. I must have a go at these flowers.

A watercolour painting on Whatman 200lb rough watercolour paper. The background was established by painting flower and leaf colours into wet paper and immediately adding the purple grey and pale yellow around them. I preserved the white flowers by keeping the paper dry. I am not a huge fan of masking fluid so prefer not to use it whenever possible. Once this initial layer was dry the flowers were painted in detil on top. Adding the "chequerboard" pattern was more interesting than I expected. I really enjoyed it! To add some depth silhouetted flowers were suggested in the background in the same colour as the initial purple grey. www.artbyrachel.co.uk
