Poor little sunflower! Using pastels has made this very vibrant John. Am in the middle of an acrylic painting of sunflowers at the moment. I see you used primed 300lb watercolour paper - I have been toying with the idea of using pastels on that paper, is it necessary to prime it first, and if so what did you use?

Thanks Adele. I primed with acrylic and added mabel dust. You can see the primed surface under the blue. The marble dust gives a wonderful grip for the pastel. Also the pastel sticks to the surface very well.

I like the strong colours

vibrant excellent use of complimentary colour well drawn John great title

Thanks for the info John.

A bold, beauty of an unhappy flower,John. Love the strong colours.

This sunflower has character John, she is looking a bit fazed :). Beautiful marks in the petals and the seedy centre is very well portrayed.

Super use of this colour combination and I like your deliberate directional strokes.....looks very natural.

Interesting to read about the acrylic base and Mabel dust, whatever it is. The result looks really good and beautifully textured.

Some great work in your gallery and I particularly like this piece - a gem.

Love the bold design and vibrant colours, John (and interesting to see your profile!)
