The Lapwing by Philip Rogers

Comments

You have captured the beautiful colors really well, I remember seeing very large flocks in Suffolk in the 1970/80s.

Nicely painted Philip.

Really like the way you have painted those feathers

Beautiful painting Philip.

Thank you for your kind comments and particularly yours, Paul. It was a challenge to lay on the colour with sufficient intensity to represent the iridescent plumage of the Lapwing, but sufficiently dilute to get it moving around and blending. Your comment represents an encouraging vindication.

Original watercolour on a half imperial sheet of 300 gsm Arches not paper. An increasingly rare bird is still reasonably familiar locally, and its 'peewit' call can still be heard at Titchfield Haven National nature reserve.
