Eilean Donan Castle, Scotland by Pamela Haynes

Eilean Donan Castle, Scotland

If anywhere has the right to be haunted, it's Eilean Donan - it is a complex building, but you've pulled it off; you don't blend your pastels much, I see, but use them very directly on the paper: in this case, that's produced an effect of broken light which adds energy to the painting. . I've seen many paintings of this castle, in all media - it can sometimes look a little bland and picturesque: this rougher technique (using that word entirely respectfully!) brings out the castle's more rugged aspects and is rather more true to what it represents.

Thank you for your encouraging comments, much appreciated. I try and capture the essence of the subject in the best way I am able.

A5 size again, I am not sure I like painting buildings as they are not open to interpretation. After I started the painting, I found the castle really complex. I also felt it was haunted - weird, I know. This image was taken from a photo.
