Fascinating - really enjoyable and a dramatic painting

Shane Record is a contributor to The Artist and for the last six years he has been raising money for a local art and creative therapy counselling service (known as The Church Street Project as it was founded in Church Street, Folkestone) by using art and creativity to demonstrate that art can have a positive and direct impact on its surroundings. Typically the children helped are victims of abuse, children with behavioural problems and children who refuse to engage at school. Creative therapy is non-verbal counselling, enabling children to open up in a safe environment and explore their problems through art, puppetry and a sand tray. Once this has been successful, they are ready for verbal counselling and can begin to engage at school. He has held all sorts of fundraising events but the main one this year is a 1000-mile cycle trip which he is doing from John O'Groats to Folkestone with a friend. He will be producing a picture every day along the 14-day route which will be auctioned off for the charity at the final welcome home party. They hope to gain lots of sponsorship for the cycle ride too, and hope to raise £10K in total. All of the money raised goes to the charity (essentially buying counselling hours), and all of our costs for the trip are met by us individually. They start the ride on June 10th and return June 25th coinciding with Shane's gallery's 5th anniversary and his daughter's 10th birthday!
