Janet Scott sent in her version of Paul's exercise saying: 'I found an old portrait I had painted in watercolour on good quality watercolour paper and turned it sideways. The painting was predominantly pink and red, so these colours peep through the acrylic strokes. I painted over the whole paper using only ultramarine, lemon yellow, crimson, raw sienna and white Daler-Rowney 'Cryla' paints. The following day, I went over the painting, adding more strokes to enhance the texture and more twigs on the trees. I tried to emphasise the difference between the sunlit areas and the shady ones. I found the exercise informative and enjoyable'
