Colin Cripps sent in his version of Paul'[s exercise saying: 'Using mountboard as a surface, I underpainted the sky with a purple wash (crimson plus ultramarine), and the land with burnt and raw sienna. I then drew the wall and trees with raw umber and sienna before applying thick, chunky brushstrokes of green mixed mainly from ultramarine or cobalt with permanent yellow. Various shades of cobalt and white were used for the sky, which was painted with a knife to allow a bit of the underpainting to break through. Finally, grasses, branches etc. were applied with small round brushes'
