PTG Exercise 2 - Shadows on a Path

PTG Exercise 2 - Shadows on a Path

It is so good to practice foregrounds as they are a difficult area in oils. Great feel I out it.

You have simplified it well Linda, something I wished I had tried. From foreground to background the recession in all down to tones, colours and skill.

Thank you for your comments. I'm enjoying these exercises & connecting with fellow painting enthusiasts. Happy painting to all who enter this gallery!

Linda Bradshaw sent in her version of Paul's second exercise saying: 'I used Winsor Violet to sketch this painting which I soon realised was too dark as the shadows looked more like holes so I overpainted with Cobalt blue. I worked Cadmium & lemon Yellow & Sap green into it. I found it quite challenging to achieve the subtlety of the shadows, the way they move over, under & up again on the path. A very interesting exercise'
