Suzanne Arnold sent in her version of Paul's first exercise saying: 'I had no canvas so painted this on a piece of flooring which I put a red ground on. I prefer to paint on a larger scale so it was quite a challenge to do it on this small piece of wood, approximately 11”x7”. Did it over 3 days, letting each layer dry. For the stubble, laid down yellow ochre then when dry, burnt umber, mixed with touch of ultramarine, thickly over top then scraped back with pallet knife. Had hoped to be more ‘free’ as your demonstrations are but didn’t quite manage it'
