Boats and the Light of Nature have an emotional appeal that arouses the human spirit, and "Tayport Harbour" explores these themes. My interests as a colourist have in this case been superseded by the need to represent the strong light behind the boats by tonal contrasts. The boldness of the statement gives the work its powerful impression. This work was awarded the Caran d'Ache prize in the Patchings Art Competition 2010, and can be viewed online in the winners section of the festival exhibition page at www.patchingsartcentre.co.uk, where you can vote for your favourite work.
