So difficult to do a black dog, but you have done so well with this painting. I like the pose and the expression on Rowland's face.

How sweet his face is. I love the way you have composed the painting. It immediately draws one's attention to his pleading eyes. Also, you have very cleverly integrated the backgroud colour with the subject.

Hello David, thank you for your comments on my gallery. I am glad you "dropped by", as I have been remiss lately in following the new gallery postings, due to their speed and volume. This is just lovely - a subject very close to my heart as I have 3 whippets. Not quite the same, but close enough! You've captured the head perfectly, as well as the expression and character of this gentle breed.

Thanks to all of you for the compliments you have made about Roland, he really is a beautiful Greyhound who gives us an unlimited amount of love and affection. I must apologise to Thea and Robert for my incorrect spelling of Roland with a ‘W’, sorry people. I took over 100 photographs over a number of months before deciding on this one, thank heavens for digital photography!

Hi David, thank you for your very encouraging comments on my Caramela and Valentino on the Painter Loft site. So this is your Rowland, beautifully painted with perfect tonal values helping to bring out the athleticism of his body. Such gentle eyes and such expressive ears. When they smile you just have to smile with them don't you, and when they laugh, you laugh too. I don't understand how people can abuse such gentle giants, Perhaps because they are so gentle and don't retaliate bullies get away with it. It would be interesting to see a wc by you, give it a go, but your oils are very good.

Just found Roland too, and he is beautiful with such a wonderful expression. Now I know that Greyhounds (some of the loveliest natured dogs) can smile, but I have known other breeds as well, with the most tremendous toothy, delightful grins!
