Nick Saltmer

Biography

Hi, I am Nick Saltmer. When I left school I had no idea what I wanted to do, good at drawing in school I was gently pushed towards art college instead I followed my friends into an apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker. But, as at school my exercise books soon contained more sketches and cartoons than actually engineering work. I eventually found myself back at the steps of the Art college where I trained as a graphic designer. Over years of working in busy design studios I tended to be the one called upon for any quick last minute illustrations needed to fill a gap on a page here and there. When made redundant in 1992 I worked for the next five years as a freelance illustrator before setting up my own graphic design business. Painting and drawing has always been a place of solace for me. I paint things that spark some appeal or evoke a memory of a special place or just the challenge of making powder or paint provoke a feeling in someone.
