What a fantastic Terry!!! Well done Neil great pic!!

I think this is the best likeness I have seen so far. Well done - I think we have the winner here!

Wow Neil, you've got it! this is the one, you got the likenes, congrats - this is brilliant, be proud! it really is the best likeness i have seen!

Congratulations Neil, I think Terry is terrific - as you know, he has caused us all a lot of angst. Great portrait, I'm sure the 'happy couple' will be impressed.

Agree completely. There have been some really good attempts, but this really is excellent.

You have got Terry!!!! Well done!

Agree with all above - HOW, is what I want to know, did you get Terry so well? You'll never, ever, in a thousand years, want to try this again, so ... come on; tell us; how did you do it... did you go to their house and spy on him through a window? Have you developed technology that can enlarge a photograph and at the same time stop it pixellating? Do you have 20/20 vision? Many fragile and crumbling egos depend on your telling us that you had some trick, some method, or that you're related to the photographer and so got a better image to work from....

This is marvellous, Neil! It's a great resemblance and a really super portrait!

Yes, they are right: this is the best Terry. Congratulations, Neil!

BY far the best representation of both of then but especially Terry.

Never mind all this facile praise, dammit, how did you get Terry right, blast you? I mean, ahem, how did you achieve this likeness, old chap? Do tell.......

Excellent ,best likeness & a nice feel to the painting not at all "laboured".Congrats hope you win.xx

Well thank you all for the kind comments. It almost makes the pain of painting this worthwhile, I don't think my eyes will be the same again! Robert I'm not sure I can answer your question fully, but here goes anyway, what I tried to do was not focus on the details at all for as long as possible just on the main shapes. You can recognise someone from quite a distance just from seeing these shapes. Once these were established, then and only then did I start looking at the details. I think one thing all of us who attempted this have learnt, is that it is very difficult to get a good likeness from such a small image and it will be a very long time before I ever try it again.

Many congratulations on your Top Ten of the Month, Neil. You really deserve it, well done.

16" x 12" acrylic on board. I wasn't going to do this but then I read Robert's rants and thought, it can't be that hard. Well Robert you were right, never again.
