The Lonely Shepherd is a rock that stands on the hillside to the west of Abergavenny. It was thought to placed there by past quarry workers, but local legend has another story. A shepherd who lived on the hillside was cruel to his wife causing her to throw herself from the rocks to her death. As punishment he was turned to stone and made to stand watch on the hillside for eternity, except for midsummer night when he walks the earth!
