23 Gloucester Avenue

I love this painting. Simple lines but so much interest. This painting conjures up so many memories for me. We lived in a prefab after the war.

Agree with the above...my early child hood...Chain-link fences though...seemed like a prison yard. That prefab complex lasted until the late 50's. Nice bit of Anderson recycling too! We had that as well.

Adds I like what I see in your evocative urban gallery

I live at number 23 Gloucester Avenue from 1957 until 1961. As far as i recollect, they were demolished around 1968 or 1969

Love this...In the 60's worked in the prefabs left behind by the Americans on the Wirral...it was Clatterbridge Hospital...I tell you what there was plenty of room in them and they were always warm...they called them Nissan huts (? Spelling)

I suggest you try taking this to the Museum , Eden Camp at Malton http://www.edencamp.co.uk/ where they still have prefabs for people to view. There are still prefabs being lived in now in Nelson.

No Patsy, Nissen huts were made of curved sheets of metal bent into a half cylinder over a concrete floor like the Italian POW church on Orkney. Prefabs were exactly what the name says; buildings that were pre-fabricated ready to bolt together with plumbing and electrics all attached so once they were fastened together, people could move in right away.

I love this painting very much. It is so Relaxation.
