Wonderful pastel painting. I do like your use of dark tones which pushes the bull forwards. Super texture on the coat.

I love the definition of his forlock, and great title!

I am in awe when anyone achieves such detail and definition with pastel. Lovely painting, and great composition too.

Wonderful pastel! Fantastic detail you have in its coat, and that look in its eye.....I spent a day recently at Glamis Castle where they have a herd of these beasts. I took loads of photos, hoping to do some in pastel later. Is that black colourfix paper you have used?

Fabulous detail in his coat, makes me want to take a brush to him. Brilliant work.

Thanks for your comments. In answer to your question Hazel I used Winsor & Newton universal pastel paper Black 6440844. This is not particularly rough, so I tend to build the picture in layers, fixing each layer lightly brfore starting on the next. Mike

Gorgeous 'Healan Coo' Mike......

Very talented. As a beginer in pastels I see now what I have to aim for. Very large mountain to climb!

I just had a look at your gallery Amanda. Your well up the mountain already. Mike

Wow! Great painting Mike. Jx

This is fantastic. I am quite new to pastels, and understand the difficulty of getting the detail right - I paint wildlife, and struggle to get the definition you have here. Your cattle pictures would sell like hotcakes at the highland fairs - saw similar limited edition prints selling at one, were not a patch on this!

Another Highland Beastie. I love drawing highland cattle. They are fantastic characters and rendering the hair in pastels satisfies my love of detail
