I took advantage of the lovely weather on my birthday and this was sketched and painted in a few hours from a field gate entrance. I was first attracted to the site by the composition of the hill side and then couldn't believe my luck to find a small church nestled in the trees. Certainly painting outdoors is very different from using a photo as your base, and the colours changed quite quickly as clouds crossed the landscape. I am pleased with the gate and fence in the foreground which seemed the only way to draw the eye into the background area. In reality the gate and track was there but perhaps not exactly as shown! It was a great experience and look forward to searching out another local gem in the coming months.
