Red Still Life

Really well done from life. Smashing reflections.

Thank you Jeanette. My first attempt at the kettle and teapot was in oil paint on a white tablecloth with a black background which - whilst enjoyable - did not have the warmth of this acrylic study done in a much quicker time (around 1 hour & 40 minutes) which is about one Gipsy Kings CD and a half of Dave Brubeck!

Bold use of colour, unusual choices for stil life. Striking and effective.

Thank you Angela - I chose these items because I wanted to really study the reflective surfaces. I placed them on a red blanket with a strong spotlight pointing down from above which made the red 'ground' orange, and bounced this orange light into the downward facing and vertical planes of the objects. It was a real struggle seeing which of the colours were orange and which were red but that made it more enjoyable to do! I'm just off now to our Tuesday evening meeting and another bash at still life - TTFN.

What a delightful still life. Reflections are lovely in your teapot and kettle. I am a fan of still life myself. I like to abstract it too after drawing the original. Jean

A still life using items found at a car boot sale! I painted this at the local club whilst listening to music by the Gipsy Kings which helped with the rich orange and red. A very enjoyable time as I remember.
