Nice and loose I would like to be able to do this

Composition done right! And the sign does the job pretty well. I'll soon upload something new too.

Perfect Michael it sings

That sign works very well Michael as does the painting!

Yes I like the sign and the hedge, adds direction!

Thanks all - I do appreciate your kind comments.

Well done on this one Michael, refreshingly simple and clean, I agree about the sign, a master stroke.

Lovely fresh work , very well executed

Yes, nice and fresh with a good composition.

Yes I like it but even better with some figures rather than those two black marks.

Derek - I think you may be right - I am always a bit reluctant to paint figures with any detail or, indeed, with too much colour - they can end up a bit twee. Anyway I've just looked at the original and they are not quite as prominent as they are in the above image - having said that perhaps a bit of colour wouln't look amiss - anyway I'll give it a go, after all it's easy to do - thanks for the observation.

Great idea to use the sign Michael, beautiful crisp washes.

Very nice Michael. I like the composition and the arrow is a stroke of genius, but I think the eye would have gone there anyway.

I always love street furniture in paintings as it adds a feeling of relevance. This one has a lovely freshness to it and your greens are very well handled.

I´m sure you could publish a book with all the beauty spots of Leicestershire. It should go down well with tourists.

Lovely and very inviting as always Michael. Love the blue house on the left.

Thanks again to you all. The direction sign is on a roundabout and I was standing in the middle of the road to take the photo on which this was based - the road was full of traffic and it was a wonder I wasn't honked at - anyway I got the shot.

Another lovely village scene Michael and you're right the signpost adds so much to the composition. I think I would have been tempted to add more to the foreground, maybe a car parked on the left and the rear of one disappearing around the roundabout, always supposing I could draw a vehicle, which I can't!

I certainly DO like it, Michael. Superb washes, palette, and I love the quirky arrow!

It's great how much discussion you can get out of a keep left sign on an art site - bless you all. Now to sort out my next one.. goodness knows which village I'll be in next.

Wonderful village painting, lovely pastel shades Michael.

Lovely work, with your enviably clean washes, the delightful charm of a village scene and a super composition. Great stuff, Michael!

A very inviting scene Michael!

Beautiful work as always

Lovely sky Michael. I've travelled up and down this street thousands of times.

Lovely watercolour Michael, the road sign works great as a contrast against the hedge...

Decided to do a straight in pen drawing first - kept it reasonably loose - for me the scene was made by the keep left sign which pointed into the picture and added a certain something to the composition - hope you like it.
