actually i was very influenced and inspired by late rembrandt in this portrait of an ancient sage. it is ofcourse almost completely abstract but his hair and his eyes are clearly noticeable i hope. i adore rembrandts late self portraits and even though i love rubens' flamboyant manner and incredible technical skill it is rembrandt who gives so many words in a simple unforced expression written on his ageing face.
