First oil by Peter Smith

FIRST OIL

Well done Peter.

Your first oil - well; I wish my first oil had been that good; but as that was some 58 years ago, I don't have a clear memory of it: probably JUST as well. It's interesting, given a conversation we're having on the Forum about editing or not editing our photos of our work, because this looks better here than it does on the Forum. It still has the issues we mentioned, but for a first go at an oil painting, I think you can be pleased with it. You'll find you can mould and sculpt with oil paint, and blend more easily than you can with acrylic - but that's the journey of discovery ahead of you: have fun with it!

Well done Peter, a fine first go. I think oils are the top medium, even though I’ve never quite taken to them. I think you said on the forum this took a couple of hours, so no problem for you. Just some more paintings to get used to them.

Thanks for your encouragement everyone. I've done some more work on the picture and posted the improved version on the forum.
