Very well done Matthew I hope that the time is right for you to really get going. But I know how life can be

I think this is working well Mathew . I saw the the stuff Christian was doing, just great .He real pushed boundaries. Keep at it ALL year.

Well, as usual at this time of year.. one of my new year's resolutions is to paint and draw something much more regularly throughout 2015! Of course, I usually fail abysmally and crumble into weakness after the first few days or weeks:) This year, at least I've made a start!! For years I've been worried about thinning oil paints too much, because someone once told me that they'd lose the ability to adhere to the support. After finishing watching 2014's Portrait Artist of the Year last week and watching the amazing Christian Hook at work with all sorts of experimental techniques I've decided to throw caution to the wind. He used paints thinned much more than my usual consistency of the past ie pretty much straight out of the tube. This has always meant I am struggling to use brushes to get detail in work, especially on rough textured supports like canvas and working at the small sizes I usually work at Hence this first experiment of the year...very thinned oils to the point of them almost being watercolour thickness. Considering I have had flu for at least a week its not a bad attempt and having a background in watercolours it seemed more natural for me to try to work in this way. If the new year's resolution sticks, then watch this space for lots more experimental dabblings, and hopefully something worthy in a few weeks or months time.
