Cymer Abbey, Wales by Martin Williamson

The serene ruins of this Cistercian abbey stand beside the River Mawddach near the village of Llanelltyd just north of Dolgellau. The abbey was founded in 1198 and although the setting is delightfully peaceful nowadays, the abbey suffered considerable damage during the troubled 13th century. Now in the care of Cadw. The painting was a nightmare to photograph and it doesn't really do the colours justice! Acrylics and oil pastel on canvas. 20" x 16"
