Anyone who doesn't love dogs should take a good look at this painting: they'd at least begin to understand why so many of us do - a lordly animal! Love the weight of that powerful muzzle, the crossed paws, the gentleness in the eyes.... I know they're expensive to keep, and they bark, and chew the furniture, and occasionally enjoy your dinner before you've had the chance to, but - take a look at that: and all this just doesn't matter, does it?
