Don't worry about mistakes as they often add character to a painting. I like this as it describes the scene very well with a bit of hustle and bustle going on at the quayside. If I can offer one little bit of advice - I think you can be bolder with your colours as a scene like this often calls for a bit of vibrancy. A really good start though and one you can build on.

Agreed, don't worry at all Mark, this works perfectly well as it is and is quite a joy to see

You are right to like it Mark. Thea and Ros are absolutely right, no need to worry about the odd few mistakes because if you have recognised them it's likely that you won't do them in the next one. Personally I think the scene is full of charm and character for the odd mistake and yes, be a little bolder with your colours. It's a lovely piece and I am looking forward to seeing your next one.

Thea, Ros and Fiona, thank you for your very kind comments. Looking back through the few paintings I have done, they do have a 'washed out' look to them so I will be working on bolder, stronger colours for my next piece. Thank you again.

Mark, if you are just starting with watercolour, you will probably find that the most difficult bit to master is the water to pigment ratio and I daresay all us watercolourists had the same issues in the beginning (and even now I have to admit!). Keeping going and keep experimenting!

I was given a small set of watercolour paints for Christmas and I thought I'd give them a go. I've not dabbled with painting before but my interest has exploded over the last few weeks...so much to learn but what a enjoyable pastime. This is my third effort, Port Isaac, Cornwall. I can see a thousands mistakes already and technical flaws galore...but I sort of like it anyway.
