Hi Mavis, I like your portrait, I too enjoy painting dogs. I like the hair and eyes, you have managed to capture quite a michevious look. My stumbling block is adding the whiskers at the very last, it either makes or breaks the painting. I like this very much. Ian shields

I have huge problems with pastel, and find it a very difficult medium (mind you, I know I'm too mean with it, and I don't really have the space to pin it up, let go, and never mind the dust). I think this is a very promising start, though; it has a freedom in the strokes and in the drawing, which I think is key to any painting. It loses a little from the chin down - not necessarily a problem, but in drawing animals I think we need all the help we can get in the drawing, photo or model we work from. The eyes are excellent, and they're the key to any portrait, human or animal. Keep at it - you have a feel for the medium.
