A lovely loose painting and pen work Margaret. He has that cocky look in his eye! (Excuse the pun!).

Lovely pose for this cockerel Margaret, with pen/ink line , and alert eye, comb and sharp beak, nicely painted in watercolour!

A lively sketch, Margaret. Good work.

A very lively sketch,I like his very alert eye and great colours washes, Margaret. :)

Great little watercolour. Love that watchful glint in his 3ye Margaret.

Lovely combination of pen and wash, Margaret, gorgeous colours - and love his expression!

Lovely work Margaret, love the colour palette 😀

Excellent sketch Margaret. Such good colour washes and the darker area round his head merges beautifully.

Good stance, good colour Margaret.

Gorgeous loose style Margaret, love it!

Well painted Margaret I like it

Lovely loose cockerel, Margaret.

Very appealing Margaret, I love it.

A fine looking chap. King of the brood by the looks of it. Lovely loose pen & watercolour.

Fantastic, Margaret. I can't resist a good hen/cockerel, such character in this one!

Thank you all for your lovely comments - I very much appreciate them. :)

He looks a lively little chap Margaret.

Nothing not to like, this is really well done

I don’t remember seeing this fella Margaret......nice one. No problem regarding the easel, let me know if you want to consider it at any point. The reserve is Carsegowan Moss, the finest example of a lowland raised peat bog, hence the water level recording. A good place for the subject of your next project....dragonflies etc.

Thank you Fiona :) Many thanks re easel, it is very kind of you - I don't really know what I want at the moment! My current easel is fine for big boards but useless for smaller canvases as supports are too low and I can't easily get it fixed (if at all) but as I'm beginning to do larger canvases, I'm not sure if I want something smaller - might take a while to decide! Thank you again for your offer. Carsegown Moss looks lovely - need to try to get there some time.

I’ve been at the Moss this morning, one or two things about.....we are waiting for the arrival of the Ospreys, if they come back. The male is about ten years old and just about at the end of his breeding time, so we’ve been told. Fingers crossed! Have you considered a table easel for your smaller stuff, you can pick one up relatively cheaply, try eBay. I can’t get on with painting sitting down but my table easel will tilt so I can paint standing up. I only use it if I’ve have other stuff on my big easel drying. They pack away quite well too.

Fingers crossed that your ospreys arrive. I read that one of the Threave ones is back (and at least one of the Loch of the Lowes so hopefully yours are on their way :) I have two little table box easels (one at our caravan -- from LIDL I think!) thanks which I use occasionally but like you I like painting standing up. I often don't use an easel at all - but they are definitely handy for larger work.

Saw this cockerel last week and I couldn't resist taking some photos. Watercolour and artist pen on the wrong side of CP paper (there are bad tulip paintings on the right side). cA4 size
