Love the technique, starting with the black has worked well.

thanks for your kind comments. Starting with the black paper , one is adding the light and the contrast is immediate. (and satisfying)

This subject matter lends itself to the use of black but I prefer not to use straight black paint but rather choose a substrate or technique that involves black. In this case I have gone for gouache on black paper - one starts the painting with the darkest dark already there.
