I have been collecting pan pastels and up to now using them mainly for backgrounds. This is a piece from my own reference photo taken at Cotswold Wildlife Park of these beautiful Asiatic Lions. They are quite pale in colour compared to the tan/brown colour of more common species. They are extremely rare and endangered. This is a lovely couple who seem to get on well and have had cubs adding to the conservation of their species. They were sat on a platform in their enclosure and looked so contented and proud. I wanted to 'set them free' as I tend to do with most of my wildlife subjects. I imagined the background an put them on rocks overlooking their domain as a proud couple. 'King & Queen' 30cm x 40cm Hahnemule Pastelfix Pan, stick and pastels and pastel pencils Incidently, I really like this pastel paper as it allows layers and easy soft blending.
