Your rendition has a lovely texture to it, it reminds me of rich velvet. If you aren't happy with it you can always lift some colour out. Looks good to me.

Well done. I like the variation of blues but I think I would have made the stem thinner - or the flowers wider.

Dear Charlotte

It is difficult to see this clearly and therefore offer a useful critique, however, I will say that the colours are bold and strong - this is so difficult to achieve with watercolour so well done! If you feel that your paintings are a little muddy, I would ensure each wash is quite weak to begin - therefore enabling you to put a clear 'template' in place - this will make subsequent washes easy to follow and remove the guess work. I will be writing a feature on my 'wiggle and pull' technique later this year - so keep an eye out for this in The Leisure Painter. Hope this helps - Helen Campbell

Charlotte Billington sent in this version of Helen Campbell's painting project of the bearded iris saying: 'I traced the picture with Tracedown paper on watercolour paper and then filledit in with watercolour. It maybe a little heavy handed and possibly a bit muddy but I would like any comment about it wheather good or bad'.
