Victorian Town House, San Francisco by Leisure Painter
Carolyn Gill sent in her version of teh project saying: 'I am attaching a photo of my picture featuring a San Francisco House, as offered by Tony Underhill. I was quite keen to have a go, as it suited one of my favourite subjects - buildings. I usually do these in pen and wash, but my aim here was to try to show it in the context of the street, without the adjoining buildings taking over. I therefore just lightly indicated the surroundings. As it is such an an attractive building I wanted to try to reproduce the colours as nearly as possible. I also thought the foliage in front of the building showed off the building to good effect and decided to put that in. I started in pencil, adding the ink lines when I was happy with the proportions and angles. Instead of penning in the boarding, I decided to indent the lines into the paper before I painted it.
