A lovely painting of a beautiful bird. The subdued soft background really helps to push the bird forward. The feathering on th bird looks so realistic and soft. Smashing Lee!

Thanks so much Julie, it's lovely to get feedback

Oil on canvas 26 x 35cm. One of a series of alphabet paintings that I’m working on. It’s a treat to catch sight of a jay in real life, they are such secretive birds. This is my imagined jay, perching in an oak tree in midwinter. Japanese woodcuts and January slate grey skies were definitely sources of inspiration.

Lee Conybeare

I set myself a challenge to paint a small picture for each letter of the alphabet. Not every painting I've done since then has been part of this 'alphabet' but I enjoy coming back to this series in between other projects. I'd love to know what you think of my work or if you have a favourite.
