You e got those awkward angles spot on Michael. Great little cameo of northern life.

Love his stance, Michael.

Brilliant, reminds me of how my grandad used to stand at the bar.

So much to like here Michael.

Thanks Jennifer and Heather. Norman Cornish was the greatest.

Nice work, Michael. I don't know of Norman Cornish, I've looked him up. Brilliant. You learn something every day.

Thanks Lewis. His work represents mine and other’s memories and history. My dad was a miner, his dad was a miner and his dad too. Painting a culture. So much meaning in his work.

One's first response would be to ask why would any-one assume this was a cameo of northern life. But Norman Cornish is a bit of a give away. Having spent a whole day working down a mine, in the long vac as a student, you can only admire people who do this every day of their lives - and suffer because of it. As a student (many moons ago) in Durham, the most welcoming pubs and the most friendly locals were the old miners' pubs. Tis a pity Durham University never recognised Norman Cornish, perhaps they could make amends by recognising Mick McManus!

ThanksTony, I concur. DU did recognise me, for my policing experience and teaching but not my painting. I only mimic the master.

Another pub, another pint, another fag! You capture the scene and the atmosphere so well Michael. Respect to you and Cornish.

Thanks for your kind encouragement Tessa.

Classic pose well caught Michael, hope to be popping up to my local soon it will be my first one since my hernia repair op.

Thanks Barry. Enjoy your drink and get back on track soon.

I keep coming back to look at this, Michael. Great work.
