Thanks Holger. I should be clear that it hasn't been used as a hospital for a very long time.

A good watercolour Michael, strong looking structure.

Thanks John. Bed and breakfast here was expensive. In April, 1312, Queen Isobel, wife of Edward the Second, stopped overnight and paid £18 17s 9d to the master of the hospital for her expenses. Sounds like a bit of pampering went on.

Lovely painting and a great story Michael.

I like this, but you have spoiled me with your figure work which I love.

Thanks Gudrun. I'll do some more figures for you soon.

Watercolour. From being a boy this building always fascinated me because it was called The Leper Hospital. I think it had left me with some psychological trauma when we were told at school about Jesus healing the leper. I imagine it's one of the oldest hospitals in the UK. It was founded by Bishop Flambard in 1112. There is some interesting information about it at http://www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/durham/vol2/pp111-114#p2 including the fact it was burned by maraudering Scots led by Bruce.
