Beautiful pastel.

Kaz, this is a beautiful pastel! Such great detail and color... I have a question: How do you keep the dust from the darks off of your lights, and do you use a fixative? Is there such a thing as a fixative you can draw over? Thanks

Hi Cheryl, thank you you for your kind comments, since i use pastelmat there isn't a great deal of dust to be honest. its a wonderful medium to work with. I can highly recommend it, what little dust there is i simply blow it away or tap the piece on the draughtboard i work on. if you work in an upright position the dust should just float to the ground. As to fixative, there is no need to use one with pastelmat, and i wouldn't recommend it, as it will ruin all your hard work. it deepens the colour tones and any white areas appear speckled. I don't know of any pastel artists who actually use fixative for this reason. Fixative is quite safe with CP as ive used a light dusting myself. In-between layers is best sprayed on the back of your work. Hope this helps. Oh one more thing if you wish to try pastelmat GREATART have an offer on at the moment which is about the cheapest on the net. :)
