You're absolutely right - he makes it look easy, and it just isn't! I don't know where you were to enjoy a hot day - but then I think we're the coldest place in the UK at the moment down here - but it can indeed make a nonsense of wet-in-wet: have you tried spraying the paper with water? I'm not primarily a watercolourist, so don't know what else to suggest ... Even a stay-wet palette isn't going to keep the paper wet. More water to start with, maybe? Really saturate the paper so it stays wet longer? I yield though to watercolourists with more experience: what, I wonder, does Alan Owen do?

Thank-you Robert, getting the paper just wet enough takes me lots of practise , that and not fiddling with it while its drying! I found your comments very helpful, getting a response from someone is always encouraging..by the way, that spell of hot weather didn't last very long!

Lovely smooth washes and colour blending Kate.

Thank-you again Carole for taking an interest in my painting..

Another lovely painting by David Bellamy! He makes it look so easy.. but it definately isnt..i had to use goache on the reeds to the left, painting wet in wet on a hot day causes problems because the paper dries so much quicker..
