I can't see where it picked up colour. I tried this too and failed miserably. Yours is superb; The flowers really jump out at you.

Don't know how I missed this one Kate, just superb, absolutely stunning. Some time washes do pick up, but some times they add to the total tonal effect. I've still got some roses to do, I will certainly be re-looking at this work, especially for the background.

I love everything about his Kate and I do admire the flower painters on POL, I wouldn't know where to start. The background seems to show the flowers off to their full brightness. Beautiful.

thought i'd try painting a copy of the hellebores by Ann Mortimer in January's copy of the leisure painter...i love doing flowers but found it difficult with the dark wash background, not to get it muddy..i made sure first wash was dry before adding the next one, but i found it was picking up colour from the previous wash..any help and advice would be much appreciated!
