This is so amazingly beautiful John. The sky is exceptional and the whole landscape bathed in light is a feast for the eyes. What medium did you use?

Thank you so much Carole, your comment is greatly appreciated. Sorry I forgot to mention the medium .... it is just Pencil.

Great work John, the humble pencil showing what it's capable of.

Superb John 👌

Wow, beautiful, excellent drawing John

So interesting description... It's very true - if you can catch the moment with your camera - do it!, because those moments are like one off payment - once gone, we might not see it at same condition ever again... The drawing is very well made John, darks & light superbly achieved. Is it graphite?

Thank you very much Russell, Stephen and Cheryl ... your comments are much appreciated.

Art, you are so right about capturing the moment. I try to always have my camera with me when I go anywhere for that very reason. I very much appreciate your kind comment about my drawing and Yes, I used Graphite Pencils. That said, I always use my mechanical pencil which is loaded with 2B Pentel Ain Stein leads. They produce darker marks than other leads and it is the only pencil I ever use.

I was going to ask the medium. That is great in pencil.

Beautiful pencil work John.

Carole has said it all for me, brilliant John.

This is absolutely beautiful John. The rays of sunlight through the clouds is magical.

Thank you very much Val-Irene, Diane, Heather and Spencer.

It was late one autumn afternoon and we were driving through the Lake District. It had been raining but had stopped and you could sense the sun above the thick heavy storm clouds. The light was beginning to fade. As I rounded a corner I saw the most spectacular of views. Most of the landscape was in near silhouette and the setting sun was breaking through the clouds with powerful beams of light. The water was still, there was no breeze, there was no sound. A moment later the spectacle had passed.

I am a very late starter, beginning my art journey almost by accident in my mid-fifty's. Fully self-taught I am very much a jack of all trades and master of none as I dabble in various media. My go-to preference is graphite, where I aim for (but never achieve) realism and second to that I'm also a…
