Congratulations Judith - you have created a lovely painting, and I am amazed that you have been painting for so short a time. Like you I turned to art after a very long break (and a bad experience at school). I have also binned lots of paintings too. One word of advice - do buy the best materials you can afford because it really does affect the results, and you never know - the next painting may Turn out to be a masterpiece. Enjoy!

You should be very proud of yourself Judith. I agree with Julie with regard to the best materials you can afford, you don't need many colours to start with. I hope you carry on enjoying painting and look forward to seeing the results.

Thank you both for your lovely encouraging comments. I already have a stash of good paints and paper, but it seems a waste to throw the cheap ones away...........think I will let my grandchildren use them up instead.

I only took up drawing and painting last year, after not having produced any artwork for 44 years when I was aged 14. I have a long way to go, and many pieces end up in the bin a total disaster! However, I am thoroughly enjoying every minute, This is a watercolour of a tree sparrow, done with basic cheap watercolour paints and watercolour paper. I haven't yet got the confidence to splash out on good brands, especially when many paintings end up in the bin. I painted the bird from a photograph that I saw in a book on birds. Newbie at art, so any comments much appreciated, thank you.
