Lovely work Joseph, reminds me of Roger Dellar's way of captuing the urban scene.

I thought this looked a little looser but equally lovely to look at. Lovely blending of the washes in the shadows of the foreground building. Reminds me a little of Singer Sargant's approach to his quick Venice watercolours.

If this is a quick sketch.......well - you leave me almost speechless! It looks more complete than any painting I have ever produced and is a testament to your talent. Fantastic bold light and your figures, thought loosely suggested, have a wonderful authenticity about them. Once again, superb work.

Agree with with Thea. The amount of light you create in your paintings is amazing.

As well as the light Joseph, I like your figure work. You manage to get features on the faces without overdoing it. Love the chap in the long brown overcoat which is the perfect colour here and balances the scene nicely. The foreground area of shadow works well. Super painting!

Thank you for your kind comments, much appreciated. I am trying to lighten up my palette a touch to try to bring out the mid tones. This sketch is ok but I think the building at the back right behind the telephone box is still far too dark and I might re try but with a light bluey grey to push the building back. Oh well nothing ventured nothing gained.

Beautifully clean and crisp watercolour Joseph.

Another great street scene, agree with Louise your figure work is superb. Please don't overdo the midtones! - your brilliant darks and consequent bright lights are so attractive.

Love the strong light and contrasts, great colours too.

I agree with the comments above, Joseph. What I like about your figures is that each one is given an individual personality. I'm a bit bored of seeing figures all painted the same, with pointy legs and everyone walking in the same way, supposedly 'loose', but to me it can often look more like rather lazy and unthinking.

Fabulous work, Joseph. I always love the way you capture the very natural pose of each figure. It really adds so much to the painting.

Thank you all for your great comments - I am trying to bring an element of life into the figures by observing a little closer at the dynamics read from one figure to the next.
