Manchester Rainy Day

Manchester Rainy Day

its like this everywhere today I think Joseph, you have captured the doom and gloom superbly here

Joseph, congratulations on brightening up the wet! It is skilfully done, the amount of detail in the pavement slabs has enhanced the image, when it could easily have become fussy. I like the cropped version as well!

Yes, as Ros mentions, a painting that could describe most of the country today! I love how you have done the paving and reflections Joseph.

Lovely vibrant painting

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I have entered this one for the front cover competition - don't know if a wet day is the most appropriate subject for the 1000th cover lol.

A great painting Joseph. Ticks all the boxes, agree with Louise.

So wet and great use of tone. Again reminds me of Alvaro.

I think this is a great painting Joseph. Good luck with the competition!

Thank you for the lovely compliments - it makes my day to get this feedback from other artists (my family always tell me they are good - even when I have put rubbish in front of them lol).

I love your watercolours. Not only because I am a native of Manchester, but because of the uncompromising and unflinching way in which you experience and record the place. Your paintings are highly personal and accomplished.

Very atmospheric and great composition. Wishing you luck in the competition, I too have also entered.

Thanks Kim for your kind comments. I am trying to achieve sort of accurate looking paintings but with a sort of freedom and looseness. On the one hand I love fast, loose and colourful paintings, yet on the other hand I love tight paintings. Hopefully when my brushwork improves I can synthesis both ends of this spectrum.

Thank you Fred and very good luck with the competition.

Walking in the Rain and these rainy day ones are superb in my opinion, for what that's worth! I love the saturated colours.

A stunning piece, Joseph - love the reflections on the wet pavement and the perfect balance of lights and darks, warms and cools.

I hope I have read correctly Joseph that you have won the 1000th cover competition with this fabulous watercolour? Many, many congratulations very well deserved indeed.

Congratulations Joseph, a very well deserved winner! You must be so thrilled and rightly so!

Huge, huge congratulations Joseph! I knew that this painting of yours would look good on the cover and doesn't it just!!! I'm delighted for you, and can imagine how thrilled you must be! I'm away this week and probably have a lot of catching up to do, but had to send my congrats asap!

My April edition of the Artist mag has just arrived, looks good :)

I have just received my April issue of the Artist magazine. Well done, fantastic painting!!

Astonishingly accomplished painting, Joseph. I've been away from the site for a long time and have missed all your (and many others') work - I'm looking forward to going through the rest of your paintings tomorrow! Very well deserved winner, you must be beyond delighted. I can't quite get my head around how complex this is yet so 'simply' painted.

Many congrats for winning the competition Joseph. I have always considered your watercolours to be of a high professional standard - anyone who can make the streets of Manchester so beautiful has to be a master! Hope this recognition brings more good things for you.
