I've never seen the original, but love your copy - though I'm sure we're all grateful we no longer have to wear collars like that: self-strangulation comes to mind. Not all portraits will show hands - my very few portraits never have, I think; but hands are hard to paint, and you've got it dead right. Well - did I expect any different? No.
