I don't know why my earlier comment on this beautiful painting hasn't appeared here but thank you for your reply. You did at least see my comment. I cannot get the hang of pastels at all and just make a muddy smudged mess so I really admire this. I try hard to cut down on detail in paintings but like you I just can't resist and in yours it has worked really well without overpowering the portrait.
