He looks cross - I don' t think there's anything wrong with his body - maybe the right shoulder isn't completely convincing, but that's at least partly because his markings cut across his musculature; very difficult to do much about that; suggest you might sharpen the edges of his collar a bit? I suspect however that you've taken this painting just about as far as it will comfortably go; I'd be inclined to just add a few extra touches, and then call this finished, and work on a fresh study. I'm not by any means expert in pastel, but if this were oil or acrylic, I'd not want to do much more to it. He looks solid, and real - think I'd be satisfied with that.

PS, the lower edges of his collar, that is; I'd leave the top ones alone.

Hi jill, i think it is great i love the collar, if i was to be really critical i would perhaps suggest some more highlights on his right shoulder just to make it stand out a bit better from the rest of his body, but it's really good are you using pastel pencils or chalks?

Thanks Robert and Tracy. Robert - I've sharpened the edges of his collar and defined the right shoulder, hopefully it looks ok now. Tracy - I use both sticks and pencils, soft and hard pastels.

Have completed some more of Max, not happy with his body yet. Any tips or comments would be helpful. Thanks for looking. Jill
