Oil on canvas 23cm x20cm. This painting was inspired by an article by Hellen Elliott in 'Painting Challenges'. The reader was challenged to paint the same motif twice using different colour schemes. I found this very exciting and I feel I learnt a lot about colour and tones. For this painting I used an 'analogous colour scheme' - cool reds/mauves and the complementary warm green. I painted the same subject using the complementary colour scheme but I was not happy with the result. In retrospect I should have mixed my own green for the paintings rather than using from the tube. I will definitely be doing some more experimenting with these colour schemes!
