Brilliant idea - and it's saved an old boat from destruction.

Boatartstudio is a 120 year old South West coast wooden fishing boat, converted into a land based art studio and gallery/exhibition space by artist and tutor James R F Holdsworth. Boatartstudio (Tarka) was built in Cornwall or Devon aprox 120 years ago. She fished out of the Cinque Port Brightlingsea in the 1970s-80s but looked set to finish her days slowly decaying in the mud at St Osyth boatyard until James spotted her. It took him just over a year to complete, using as much recycled materials as possible. Tarka is now a land based art studio, an inspiring, creative environment in which to work and best of all she is now a working boat again. James will be conducting classes from the studio in painting, drawing and printmaking. Essex Artist and educator James R F Holdsworth has exhibited his works extensively in the UK and Asia. His education in Fine Art was from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, the University of Reading and Cambridge School of Art. In 2003 he founded BLO
